The mission of the Department of Epidemiology is to improve population health through research, education, community engagement and translating discoveries into practice.

Epidemiology is a quantitative, data-driven discipline that uses rigorous methods to collect, analyze and interpret health-related data in human populations. Epidemiologists use this information to examine the distribution and determinants of disease, and to apply this information to develop disease prevention strategies to improve population health.

Epidemiology is an exciting field that not only develops and applies rigorous epidemiology methods, but also draws on other scientific disciplines, including biostatistics, informatics, genomics, biology, economics, social and behavioral sciences.
