In the CNBC report "Undercooked: An expensive push to save lives and and protect the planet falls short," UCI epidemiologist Rufus D. Edwards questions the standards set for home cooking stoves in developing countries.
"Health-based discussions have to be based on peer-reviewed science,” said Edwards, a professor in the UCI School of Medicine's Department of Epidemiology who has extensively assessed the health and climate impacts of stoves, including studies for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
“If it’s a political standard, so be it, but don’t call it healthy.”
