| There are more than 9 million survivors of cancer in the US today, many of whom are disease-free. Through early detection and complex multimodal treatments, we can expect a growing number of survivors in the years ahead. However, these improvements in survival are not without human cost, and it is increasingly important for us to consider the late medical consequences of our successful treatments. Breast cancer patients account for about a quarter of the survivor population, and as a result, provide an important target group for examining the late effects of cancer treatment. In this talk I will review the results of research from my laboratory and those of others that will describe some of the late effects of breast cancer treatment, along with strategies to conduct such investigations. |
