| William B. Grant, SUNARC (www.sunarc.org), San Francisco, will discuss use of the ecologic approach to determine beneficial and harmful links to solar UV irradiance. The benefits include about 16 types of internal cancers, multiple sclerosis, etc. The harms include melanoma and other skin cancer, cataracts, etc. However, it appears that UVA (315-400 nm) rather than UVB (290-315 nm) is the more important spectral region for basal cell carcinoma and melanoma. |
