| "Genetic epidemiology approaches to a complex disease such as cancer have yielded important insights and have opened our understanding of the genetic basis of a number of cancers, including colorectal cancer and breast cancer. Two other common cancers have been more difficult to study, although we are now making inroads. This seminar will focus on how a multidisciplinary consortium approach to family studies is crucial, as well as special efforts in subject recruitment for these cancers. The establishment of the Pancreatic Cancer Genetic Epidemiology Consortium will be illustrated, and the recent success of the Genetic Epidemiology of Lung Cancer Consortium in mapping the familial lung cancer gene to chromosome 6q23-25 will be described." |
