| "Long QT syndrome is a relatively rare cardiac disorder with frightening consequences. Individuals with the syndrome may present at a young age with loss of consciousness or sudden cardiac death. Many people are found with the problem after a family member has had a life threatening symptom. The diagnosis is often made by an electrocardiogram. Recently, genetic testing has disclosed some markers for identifying individuals at risk. Future research is needed to help prevent death in this vulnerable population." |
