Post-Doctoral Scholars
Post-doctoral Training Program in Epidemiology
The Department of Epidemiology,
within the UCI School of Medicine, offers a postdoctoral experience
that emphasizes scholarship and continued research training for individuals
who have recently completed a doctoral degree. The Postdoctoral Scholar
conducts research under the general oversight of a faculty mentor in
preparation for a career position in academe, industry, government,
or the nonprofit sector. Postdoctoral work provides essential training
in many disciplines for individuals pursuing academic careers and may
include opportunities to enhance teaching and other professional skills.
We believe that Postdoctoral
Scholars contribute to our academic community by enhancing the research
and education programs. They bring expertise and creativity that enrich
the research environment for all members of the University community,
including graduate and undergraduate students. The Department of Epidemiology
strives to provide a stimulating, positive, and constructive experience
for our Postdoctoral Scholars, by emphasizing the mutual commitment
and responsibility of the institution, the faculty, and the Postdoctoral
Scholar.
Those individuals interested
in becoming a post-doctoral scholar should contact the faculty member
within our department who shares their particular research interest.
In addition, a posting of listed opportunities can be accessed
through our Epidemiology Careers.

The Department of Epidemiology
is one of the most successful and respected academic units at UCI. The evolution of our academic unit over the past 25 years has included,
among other research successes, the development of California’s first
cancer epidemiology program based on a population-based cancer registry.
This cancer registry has facilitated a steady growth of large cancer
epidemiology research projects making UCI a leader in this particular
field. As a result, we have been successful in recruiting superb
faculty who are leaders in their respective research areas as well as
an exceptional group of post-doctoral scholars. The Department of Epidemiology
faculty, postdoctoral scholars and doctoral students will continue to
collaborate with national and international research groups and scientists
owing to our strong national reputation for research innovation and
excellence.
